1993 was just on the phone and reminded me RS485 worked better with unshielded twisted pair cables.
May have been a prank call they were a thing back then.
I installed a lot of systems using these things with RS485 cabling
This is a loading controller for petroleum products, designed to contain an explosion if the internals malfunctioned and the unit had filled with explosive vapour, here is a similar model glowing away
As a tiny bit of trivia do any of you remember the on missile camera footage of the US blowing up stuff in Kuwait ?
That was a customer site for the company I was working for, seventy five of the “Acculoads” shown above were on that site but were stolen by looters before the missile strike.
I wonder what the history is behind that unit on Ebay…
However, its my turn for an ICONIC number, I have one of these somewhere with windows 3 installed, it was my romper stomper upgrade of the time.
