Inside the backup system when it had Opteron 250’s on the Asus K8N-DL. Now it has 270’s under those Thermalright XP-90C’s:

The main system. Opteron 275’s on another Asus K8N-DL cooled by Scythe Ninja’s and Mechatronics 120mm’s:

The third system also has Opty 270’s on an Asus K8N-DL but it has Thermalright XP-90’s with Enermax 92mm Adjustables. It’s a pure cruncher so it’s barebones and not very photogenic.:frowning:

All systems are housed in Globalwin YCC-61F1 cases with Enermax Liberty 500 or 620 PSU’s. The hard drives are all Seagate 500 or 400GB IDE’s. Front fans are 120mm Enermax Adjustables turned down to half-speed and rear fans are Mechatronics 120mm’s.

Three high-power but very quiet systems. I can’t fit/support more than the three systems in the little dorm suite they give me over here. The HVAC and electrical circuits can’t support much more.

Got tired of waiting for the new Asus K8N-DL motherboard that I ordered the week before everything else to get here. So, I went ahead and pulled an Asus K8N-DL out of one of my other machines to complete the build and get these 280’s checked out. The complete build is 2 Opteron 280’s in a Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01 with a couple Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F (1,600rpm) 120mm fans replacing the stock Cooler Master fans. I also pulled out the Cooler Master 80mm fan that they have mounted to the top vent. It just isn’t needed and I’d rather have the peace and quiet. There are 6ea Corsair CM72SD512RLP-3200 memory modules for a total of 3GB RAM, 2ea Seagate 400GB IDE Hard Drives, a black NEC 16X Model ND-3550A DVD Burner, an ENERMAX Liberty 620W Power Supply, a couple of Scythe Ninja 1000P’s for CPU cooling.

Some pics:

Hopefully that other Asus K8N-DL shows up this week so I can get the Opty 275’s back up crunching without tearing into another of my systems. The only issue during install was that I bought the Opty 280’s from two different sources (Trindall and Stevefry from eBay- Both awesome traders B) ) so the steppings were mis-matched. The BIOS gave me an earful of “CPU Fail” until I went into the settings and saved. It came up “Mis-matched CPU’s” on restart but I was able to F1 past it and Windblows booted right up. All four cores are happily crunching away at 2525MHz (5% overclock using Clockgen to get a 210.4 HTT).

Since I haven’t bothered TPR for awhile I’ll show you my latest rig

Since when did one motherborad have 2 processer slots ? Ive never think that:confused:

Server motherboards had them. Common before dual core CPU’s. Tyan still make them - Tyan. Double quad core mobo - 8 cores in 1 PC? I think so!

Wow. Never seen them before. Pretty cool. Imageine two i7’s, thats 16 cores

i7’s still only have 4 cores. its just under certain circumstances a core can run 2 threads of a process… That is if special program has been designed to run multiple threads.

To be honest, Intel have done nothing more than built a AMD Phenom X4 that has 1 extra feature, Hyper threading, which Died out years ago FOR A REASON.
