Advice for Graphic card replacement

I need to replace an AIW 9800 Pro 128mb. I’m not worried about the replacement being a AIW as the shuttle has taken over the role of HTPC. I play alot of games of which Battlefield 2 is probrably the most graphic intense of them, the 9800 Pro was able to run the game ok at 1024*768 on med to low settings.

I’ve not kept upto date with hardware so no idea whats on the market. The new card HAS TO BE AGP as i cant afford to upgrade to PCI-E (unless theres a cheap K7 mobo with pci-e) and secondly my budget is a little tight at £90 max.

the current top of the line AGP is the nvidia 7800GS, then below that, if you can still find them, are the 6800Ultra and the 6800GT. On the radeon side, your probably looking at an x800, but the 6800GT and higher usually beat the ATIs. Not sure about prices in the UK, but the 7800GS runs for around $300 USD new, which I think will be out of your budget. I would look for something in the 6800 line, but I would stay away from the plain 6800. Even the 6600GT should give you some improvement in BF2 (which I play alot of) Hope this helps, dont know too many online stores in the UK to show you links or prices though, sorry.

£90 is pretty firmly in the 6600GT/6800 area, might be worth trying to pick up a secondhand 6800GT somewhere :).

Had a scout around and heres what i’m looking at

Now if i had a PCI-E mobo i’d be spoilt for choice at lower prices

out of that list, I would go for either the X1600 or the 6600GT, the X700s arent worth the money, either is the X1300, at least if you want to play BF2.
