Seti Enhanced starting go live

Enhanced to start limited distribution in main project…

i am ready

Athlon64 3.200+ take 3:20 for every WU …

regards
Sir Ulli

On May 3, 2006 we started distributing work for a new version of SETI@home called “SETI@home Enhanced”. This new version is a factor of two more sensitive to Gaussian signals and to some kinds of pulsed signals than the original SETI@home. There is a cost to this increased sensitivity in terms of the extra analysis requiring more computing power. But thanks to the efforts of some SETI@home volunteers, this new application has been optimized to the point where it will run faster on some workunits than earlier versions. However some workunits (the best workunits, scientifically speaking) will take significantly longer. Here are the answers to some questions you may have.

will they not be the same stats as the boinc/seti?

same stats [Cobbslestones], just counted via Flops insted of Benchmarkes

no i mean, will it be like added to our current seti marks, or have to start all over again with everyone at ZERO

From a VERY brief read of that thread, you’ll still carry on like normal.

Just another application will be downloaded and used…

Like check here…
http://predictor.scripps.edu/apps.php

3 different applications can be downloaded and used…If you get the new units, you’ll download the new application automatically

Of course I may be VERYY wrong but thats how I take it.

the automatic only works if you don’t have an app_info.xml file, which optimized apps require.

As I said…VERY brief read

Ok the optimzed 5.12 Enhanced files are out now for windows

and the app_info.xml to work along side the 4.11/4.18 crucher optimized app:

^^ im not actually sure what any of that means???

got a translation?

What it means is the new seti application that some of us have been beta testing is being transitioned into effect.

it has some major changes.

they will slow increase the number of 5.12 work units sent out, and decrease the number of 4.xx units sent out.

those not running optimized will auto-magically do the transition [But should upgrade the Boinc client if the are not running 5.2.6 or higher.]

those that are running optimized application need to download the new optimized application, and change their app_info.xml files to match the above posted xml. other wise the will in the nearish future run out of units to crunch.

the libfftw3f-3-1-1a.dll part of the windows app_info is optional as earlier version of 5.xx needed it but crun3her’s 5.12 app does not.

as to your credit question it will add to your current seti credit. It is just calculated differently [hence why you need BOINC client 5.2.6 or greater]

many thanks roguebfl - was beginning to wonder why my machine was not getting the new units and was reporting server out of work

DT.

i only downloaded seti 3 weks ago so i should be fine  i aint botherd playing around with optimised yet
