US Withdrawal from Iraq

Hot off the press at CNN, 30,000 US troops to return home

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/11/bush.iraq/index.html

Question is, will it happen and who could confirm the actual number of deployed troops anyway ?

We have one million billion troops deployed… yes, that’s it… :sneaky:

As for reality, I wouldn’t hold my breath on any troop withdrawl. CNN (Communist News Network as it’s known by our troops), sometimes jumps the gun. Petraeus said that we would probably be able to withdraw those troops in the near future, but there is no absolute date. I think it’s still a matter of war metrics: when certain goals are met, then troops will come home (hopefully sooner rather than later).

 I’m sure Petraeus was talking of next spring/summer as a likely timescale when he was being grilled

Yes, but that’s all speculation based on what he thinks will be accomplished between now and then, not to mention being something said to get the politicians to shut up so he can go back to doing his job. The reality is we can’t pull out troops if it’s going to be a step backwards for Iraqi development, and we certainly can’t pull troops if the Iraqis aren’t ready to fill our shoes. That would make a bad situation much, much worse and the innocent people over there don’t deserve that.

Well…Ballard is a science fiction writer…and that quote proves that nothing has changed there. As for Pilger…well I would expect no less from an American hating socialist.

Guess those generalisations of opinion make me an American hating socialist science fiction writer then.

All I am saying is that if the American Dream has run out of gas, why are so many damned people trying to get into this country? And no war on terror? The terrorists sure have been at war with the western world for 30 years.

The War Against Terrorism has been around for many years.
Its one of my favourite acronyms

Seems to me that anyone who disagrees with the far-right-wing pseudo-intellectual ideology of the “Christian” extremest Republican Junta (G W Bush et al) is a “commie-pinko-bastard”.
Well that means about 99% of the worlds population are.
And as for people trying to emigrate to the US it is mostly from countries whose economy was ruined by the US; In Central and South-America e.g. Mexico, Columbia, El Salvador and Panama, to name a few.

if being a ‘socialist’ means having an NHS, no Guantanamo Bay, Legal Aid, a state-funded pension scheme, freedom of speech, equality for all, then hell yes! im proud to be a pinko, subversive, commie socialist! and screw you, Senator Joe McCarthy!!!

:edit - spelling. my FREE, state-paid education allowed me to spot my typo error.

You are all correct. The US is an evil nation who has never done anything good. We are just ruining the world. Christianity is bad.(I would say that what you perceive to be Christian is skewed). And more government programs are the answer to every problem.

Screw me??? I hope that was a joke.

pinko, subversive, commie socialist! and screw you, Senator Joe McCarthy!!!

yes, it was a joke. the odds against you being called Joe McCarthy and a Senator are pretty long. I was merely referencing the '50’s witch-hunts, and the assumption that since i disapprove of Bush’s invasion of Iraq then i must be a communist.

A true communist has nothing and shares it with everybody

I am certainly glad that I would never be called a senator. That would be the same as being called a prostitute.
Who made the assumption that you were a communist just because you disagreed with the allied invasion of Iraq? It certainly was not me…or anyone else on this thread…at least as far as I can see.
Look, the bottom line is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I may not agree with yours…you may not agree with mine…who cares.

I would really like to know where you get your facts. Or maybe those are not facts…just opinion disguised as fact.

1st “Seems to me” implies a matter of opinion not fact.
2nd I get my facts from reading large quantities of historical records, primary and secondary sources(books, news papers etc.).
3rd You stated that John Pilger was “an American hating socialist” without ever meeting him, or reading what he has to say.
As far as I’m aware Mr Pilger is neither a Socialist or a racist (as hating someone for their cultural background is being racist), and does not hate Americans.

Ok…you win…but your opinions are way off. I thought you libs were open minded?

I’m a new type of bigoted-nihilistic-Communistic-Atheistic-Existentialistic-pinko-bastard liberal.

I’m not in any way interested in who’s done what, to who, or when … but I love that description - can I join up ? :tiphat:
