A DIY Cruise Missile for $5000

[B]Some time ago I wrote an article in which I suggested that it would not be difficult for terrorists to build their own relatively sophisticated cruise missiles using off-the-shelf components and materials…However, there have also been a number of people who claim I’m overstating the case and that it’s not possible to build a real cruise missile without access to sophisticated gear, specialist tools and information not readily available outside the military.

So, in order to prove my case, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and build a cruise missile in my own garage, on a budget of just US$5,000.

Interesting site IMO (Forum there as well btw)

you can all sleep safe now knowing ppl can flatten large areas with ease :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder how much Ambrosia you could deliver in an airburst detonation with one of them:D

I studied aeronautical engineering (I was an airframe technician in the RAF) that guy certainly knows his stuff and I don’t doubt for a second that he’ll succeed.

A very interesting read. Good to see someone with some inventiveness and gumption doing something different :stuck_out_tongue:

Well cruise missles are pretty old technology! The Germans used the sh!t out of them on the British in WWII. That was over 60 years ago.

Now you have sofisticated electronics available to the common man. They are pretty simple really, with GPS you could easily hit a target.

Also studying AeroEng Speedyj and he seems to have everything right for the airframe design so don’t see why he can’t succed.

you a rigger!

sorta explains the sense of humour, forces peeps are just a bit more warped than the rest, how long / where did you work? you never know our path’s could have crossed.

OK you build the frame I’ll do the leckie bit… sorted,

Unfortunately it doesn’t matter how much extra thrust you give it unless you also give it some variable wing geometry the drag just keeps on going up with any increase in velocity.

Be interesting to see how he proposes to get round that.

Interesting  … I almost joined up for the same career, but chickened out at the last moment :frowning:

If I had joined up and done the full term I would be retired nicely by now … with the lovely pension etc

oh well, story of my life … come to a crossroads, toss a coin, lose the coin, go back the way I came

Not just the drag going up to deal with, also the actual foil section changes due to bubbling etc around its edge. It’s the low launch speed thats the killer;)

Looks like governments are getting a bit upset with the missile building.

“I have now had to give the missile to a friend for safe keeping.”

:chuckle:

LMAO. Good to see someone bucking the system.

sound like something Blair will come up with to explain the continued lack of WMD’s…s

A frightening, yet captivating, thought.

With all this aeronautic talent about, it’s gotta be on the agenda for a TPR meet to build a self powered Ambrosia missile with a range of…oooooooh…say 300m? How about a 4kg yellow payload? To be detonated at ~75m for maximum ground effect?Luvverly!
