My Vauxhall Zafira is not yet 3 years old. The aircon has had be be re-gassed twice in this time. Both times Vauxhall deny there is a fault (as it would then be free under the warranty).
They claim that as it has done 50,000 miles this seems reasonable as ‘the more you use it the quicker it needs re-gassing’.
hmmm - I would err on the side on them having you on. And top-tip, look in yellow pages for a domestic fridge engineer, they’ll do the maintenance for half the price. At least then you also get a second professional opinion. At the end of the day its a fridge unit with a bigger fan than normal.
Yep Aircon not too different from your fridge or even a prometeia cpu cooler
unless you have a leak should not need re-gassing, only possibility is if any
oil needs chaining that’s included to lube the compressor and it tends to involve
a complete change or gas.
Its normally R134 and as suggested above a refridgeration chappy could also do the same job.
The stories I hear about Vauxhall tend to lead me to the point that they are having you on.
What you normally find, is that the garages call in a fridge guy to do the work anyway! A bloke who does the fridges at my mates butcher shop spends half his week doing fridge maintenance, half re-gassing air-con for the local Ford garages.
Aircon on my wifes Galaxy (no its not mine) has been regassed twice under warranty. second time after changing pumps, evaporators, condensers and god knows what else they refilled it with a leak tracing dye to help spot any leaks.
Touch wood its worked ever since but it did need some fettling to get it working properly in the first 10,000 miles
