Ok guys, I’m wanting to get a new motorcycle, and just wondering if any of you have suggestions. Lets start off with what I have.
A 1996 Yamaha TW200 dual-sport, nearly 13K miles. It’s ok for what it was built for (street and dirt), but it’s a little more off-road oriented than some dual-sports. I’m wanting a pure street bike. Also, the TW maxes out at 65mph, 70 on a good day, and I cruise at about 60. I’m wanting something that can go about 80 without sounding like it’s about to blow the head apart:rolleyes: Plus the slight shake from a little bit knoby tires gets tiring:hehehmm:
I’ve rode a few street bikes, including my old man’s Honda Nighthawk 650 that he dragraces, and I don’t really want that much powah right now:) I know what would happen if I did…
Ok, so here’s what I’m looking for.
-A new or used (not older than 8 years or so) street bike.
-250CC or there abouts.
-Fairly comfortable seating, for a 5’9" 150lb person.
-Ability to go 80mph without straining the bike.
-Good fuel economy.
-Easy to find and cheap, as in $1500 or less.
Don’t care too much about brand. Had thought about a Kawasucki Ninja 250, but I’ve decided not to get a sportbike like that, plus a guy I knew that had that exact bike has been unconcious (sp) for about a month now after an accident 1/4 mile or so from where I work. Just be using it to go into town to college, and around to a few towns. Farthurest about 40miles (GF).
I’m searching for my first bike. May be another year before I get one but I’m trying to figure out what will work for me. From your description, I’d say a Honda CBR600 will suit just fine and I’ve heard its one of the best “beginner” street bikes you can find. Not too powerful but can handle highway speeds with ease. I’m a bigger guy so I’ve been considering a cruiser instead like a Honda Shadow.
Would like to have a CBR, but it does need to be about 250 for licensing and insurance purposes. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be seeing this thread if my old man would sell me the 650 Nighthawk he has. The 250CC and $1500 are the most important features right now, until I can afford more for insurance and such. Plus need to save for that Ford F350 Diesel:p
Get yerself an old Honda Superdream - bomb proof engines (except one my mate had), 85mph top speed, plenty of power, and it’s old and built like a brick, so you don’t have huge repair bills when you drop it.

My thoughts exactly, or a VFR/RVF400 NC30/32. Very nice and they’re around 1500 - 2000 as far as I know. Very good engines and they do your 80MPH and a bit more if you need (130)
My dad just got a '88 Suzuki Intruder 750, so I took it out for a go today… Once I got on the highway, hit 90mph (not the top speed, just where I ran it up to…With no glasses the wind got to me eyes) in no time, and it sounded oh so sweet getting there. Don’t think it has anywhere near the pickup of his Honda 650, and I think I like the way the 650 handles a bit better, but the Suzuki does have a lower center of gravity. But either way, it’s better than my TW200 that I ride, and the Honda CB350 that I’m going to try to take drag racing next time he decides to go.
Well, I think I’m just going to wait to buy a new one until after next summer, when I’ll have more money, and I’ll just go ahead and buy a larger bike. And If I get one of the jobs I’m looking at (Alaska  ), money WON’T be an issue:D

Just wondering Damski, how easy are these to come by in the states, and how fast are they?

But if you take a job in Alaska, do you really want to ride a bike? (Okay, maybe for the three months a year where the temps get into the 60s or so)
