Just wondered if anybody else has contacts with military vehicles.
I’m looking for Military spec oils.
Engine oil is listed as OMD 60 for winter use and OMD 110 for summer. This stuff was made to specification just for military use and was discontinued once all vehicles needing it were decommisioned.
A bit of googling hints that Ferrets use the same oil. There is a huge temptation to walk into motorists discount centre and ask for five gallons of Ferret oil !

The Gearbox oil is OC-600 which is 94% Mineral oil with 6% unblown rapeseed oil and you can apparently cook chips in it
This is listed as Nato 0-208 which isn’t on the shelves at Halfords and I had a long chat with a chap at Castrol who struggled to find anything as a direct replacement. Nato stopped using it in 1986 but if anybody has access to military stores and felt like asking if there was any gathering dust at the back of the shelves it would be appreciated.
OMD 110 = This is a high detergent SAE 30 (MIL 2104).
Also found this=> Please be careful about OMD 75 (10W/30) which was supposed to replace
OMD 110 (SAE 30). OMD 75 is a “1970’s” style multi-grade and not like
the modern products although it is available here as a “classic” oil -
at a price.

OMD110 replaced by OMD113 available in 25Lit Qty’s no stock here
OC-600 still available in 25Lit Qty’s in stock here
I’m going to see if I can get authority to have some, what sort of Qty’s you looking at?
25Ltr’s should be ample for topping off as it leaks out provided whats currently in there is compatible with OC-600.
Gearbox, transfer box, and some sort of diff/geared hub at each wheel.
No idea on total capacity.
Chap who owned it previously said he had a service manual but hasn’t replied to my requests to pick it up.
OK the request has gone in via the back door, I’ve got people out and about trying to get stuff, it’s going to take a few days I’ll let you know, BUT it will need picking up.
are there any other spares that your having truoble finding?
Got a semi retired guy works for me in the winter who plays maintenance and tank driving at Bovington tank museum during the summer. If you’re still stuck I’ll try and contact him
hmm … Damski with possible access to old RAF millitary equipment - and TFW with an affection for all things pyrotechnic (and the bigger the bang, the better)
