Anyone know much about phonographs?

I have an Edison Bell, leather bound in full working order. Don’t know what the model is though, got it off my old man.

Anyone know what these kind of things are worth?

Would it increase the value if I put a turnip on it?

How many WUs/day does that do and can you overclock it?

Flipping Heck

My Dad gave me this Decca

Your’s looks in better condition than mine though, but it’s fully working

Oh aye, it’s in good shape apart from the leather handle which has broken off at one end. Just want to find out dome info on it.

It has an “Electron” emblem stamped in the leather, and a tag which reads “EB326”. No idea what it means though. Don’t even know how old it is.

I like the moulded lid on yours.

I Found This site Bibby

I might have emailed them.

I trawled Google last night and emailed the pic to a few places that specialise. Hopefully something will come of it, and I’ll find out what it is.

WOW they are sooooo  - haven’t seen one of those since i was a kid - my grandfather had one - thought of putting it on eBay for a while just to see how high?

Did think about it Vajras, but I’ll wait & see what I get back from the “specialists” first.

Just got this email…

The gramophone is the “Edison-Bell” Electron portable from about 1890. Edison-Bell was the British Company that operated from about 1890 in the UK to manufacture gramophones and phonographs undeer licence from Thomas Edison in the USA, and also to sell and manufacture other machines. THey were taken over by the Decca Company in 1930.

1890!!!

I know a couple of antiques dealers - I could see if any of them know much about these things.

Yeah cool, would be interesting to know whether I should insure it…or sell it to fund an alcoholic evening.

Methinks it wouldn’t just be alchohol you would be imbiibing

Flog it

Are they SCSI or IDE?

Just got another email of a different outfit…

What you have there is a late 1920’s or early 1930’s portable gramophone. Edison Bell is not Edison, but a British company with a factory in Willesden. They were mostly assemblers rather than manufacturers. Value at retail, around £100 if working.

Nobody really knows what it is, do they…:frowning:
