Best data only SIM for London (Mayfair)

Hey guys

I need a temporary SIM for London for an office go-live that may not have the fiber installed on time.

I currently have a Lebara SIM in a TP Link 5G router but the speed is max 130/10 inside the building. Vodafone seems a little pedestrian indoors.

EE will only provide a full speed SIM on a 24 month contract by the looks of things so I’m looking for some recommendations please?

I need full 5G with unlimited data

Nothing is truely unlimited but

Runs on EE but gives access to 5G unlike EE.

Currently on them for my 5G Mi-Fi device and have been very happy with speeds i’ve had; would be faster if i was using a proper LTE/5G router rather then the portable one.

Can you put external attena’s on the device or mount it outside and run network cables inside ?

Which ISP did you choose ?

Some ISP’s supply routers with 5G backup as standard.
If you have one of those, ask them to post the router to you now so you can set it up yourself, if the 5g is slow you have somebody to shout at to make it faster.

(Hopes it isn’t BT though)

I haven’t chosen yet, we’ve ordered 500mbps Colt fiber and will be running Cisco Meraki kit in the office with a BT fiber backup link but both thse providers are pretty sticky when it comes to installing physical cabling in buildings. Still waiting for legal to sort out the wayleaves and some other irritating paperwork.

Thanks @Apex

I’ll take a look at them.

I’m also considering testing Lyca (EE) and GiffGaff (O2)

Another has turned up

I tested the following

Lebara (Vodafone)
Vodafone (80GB p/m data contract)
Lyca (EE)
GiffGaff (O2)
Three

Lyca was by far the best in Mayfair 215/25mbps, everything else tested between 45/2 and 110/10mbps.

My device has been blacklisted on the Lyca netowrk. I wonder if that counts for the entire EE network or just the Lyca portion?

Blacklisted, why the hell they do that ?

Was it a new and boxed device ?
Or did it come from Ebay ?

Is there more than one sim slot, the second slot may have a different IMEI number you could try

No idea, only did about 300GB in 2 weeks and now no SIM from Lyca will even connect to the network. All other providers work fine.

Brand new from Amazon, only 1 slot unfortuantely.

But, we have found a much better solution allbeit very pricey. It’s only temporary and will greatly diminish the risk or reputational damage.

We went with a bonded 5G solution that is much better than over-the-counter 5G. They meticulously go through all the channels and frequencies and customise the setup of the 5G router.

2x 5G SIM cards with standard browsing load balancing over the 2. All sensitvie traffic like video calls, IPSec etc go over the bonded connection which has a permanent internet facing IP address.

Quite clever actually.
