Got a job delivering pizzas… not much cash but it may keep me from shutting my boxen down. Best I can offer is to O/C my AMD 2200XP and see what happens.

@DT - I’ve got an unlocked Duron 800 I’ve just swapped out thats doing nothing. I was going to hang on to it for testing but if you want it, it’s yours.
Okay, I kinda got by having to shut down my wife’s laptop and office machine. I just replaced my XP2100 with and XP2500 and will mess with some oc’ing this weekend. Should be fairly easy enough on this ASUS A7V board. That should make up for some of the lost daily dumpage.
One question for some you of Linux users…why on God’s green earth would you want to run Seti in wine??? That is counter productive!! I tried and saw no performance increase…in fact, I found quite the opposite was true…there was actually a performance decrease. If your CLI isn’t performing…change the nice setting or shut down some unneeded tasks. I have no problems with the x client and pumping out a work unit about every 3.5 hours with my current set-up.
I don’t know who started that the Seti Client was “optimized for Windows” and wrote the command line versions for other OS’es as an afterthought, but that is a bunch of hogwash! : Most of the development was done on a BSD system as I understand

Much appreciated O’Borg, thanks for the offer but if its your only spare and Radar can provide a 1200 then I think thats a better safeguard for unit production

A 1200=Highest bidder so far that really would be top notch ! Any old graphics card should do - I mean with a 1Gb drive it aint going to do a lot apart from crunch Shall we sort via PM
TPR-Rules I think I may have a couple of HD’s spare after all is said and done - I’ll report back on the seti push.

Yep! Thats the one, but I’ve only just set it running SETI CLi. SHould get a few more out of it now hopefully.

Sorry Derrick but if you are only getting 3.5 hrs out of a XP2500 & LINUX CLI you are sadly mistaken, I have a Barton under Wine doing 2hr WUs. I used to get those kinds of speeds with a paly 1800 under wine.
You might want to look at the Benchmark pages and the WINCLI is faster and even FASTER than WINDOWS while running under WINE!

First, I must apologize. I was on my anti-windoze kick last night when I replied.
Second, for the amount tasks that this box does (it is basically a server for my network but not entirely), I think 3.5 hours per w/u was very respectable, and that was with the 2100, the average with the 2500 is around 3 hours. This particular box handles a lot of cron jobs on my network (backing up files, sorting databases and such) so it is quite heavily used.
I have very limited experience with wine as I really have no need for it. When I tried the Seti under wine I was running an Athlon 900 and Mandrake 8.0. I wasn’t very impressed with the results. That could have been with the distro though. I know wine has much improved over the last year or so. Maybe I shall try to set up wine in Suse 8.2 and give it another shot
