Coaxial SPDIF

Can you split the signal using a 1 -> 2 phono lead?

yes and no

You need to use a 3dB impeadance matched power splitter. Baring in mind that I spent 2months of my life in RF & Microwave designing these buggers. This is becuase if all the leads into the junction are the same then the impeadance as seen from the input stage is less than the original, this WILL cause reflections in the signal and therefore bit errors.

But if you use a very short length then the fact that each end should be 75 impeadance matched and therefore absorb the reflections before they get seriously out of phase with the orginal signal and interfere, you might get away with it.

Bare in mind that I had to go and my my own 75ohm cable as when I got past 2m the phono - phone lead i was using was causing my amp to drop out every so often.

Thanks for the info mate, sounds like I’d be better off converting the coaxial to optical then splitting that
