OK so my dual tualtin box ran with server 2k3 standard ed. and the BOINC gui for ages with no problems at all.
Yesterday, as part of my rebuilding my LAN, I put 2K3 SBS on the box and let it run as the DC. It’s been running fine since yesterday AM until about 10mins ago when I installed BOINC and set it up to run as a service.
About 10-20 secs after starting the service the box powered off. No warnings/memory dumps etc. Anyway powered back on got back to login prompt and a few secs later down it went. Rebooted in safe mode and disabled the service and low and behold it’s stable again.
Just had a flick through the event log and there’s nothing to suggest any probs. I’m wondering if it’s because under log on it’s set to Local System account. The reason being is that I can run the gui with no probs and there was an AD error about an anonymous login attempt right at the time the box went down?
hmmm, not sure why it would shut down, as in power off if there was what it thinks a security issue
Just checked the boinc service on my 2k3 sbs and its also set to local system account and never encountered any problems.
actually I wonder if it’s cause I’ve been trying to d/l large files (FC3 DVD iso @ 2.3gb) from the web on client PCs. I’ve noticed that each time the server dies the d/l is at around 260-270mb and then obvious it times out.
Am running boinc service now with downloads on other machines and so far so good…
