Default Folder Properties

How can I set default folder properties in Windows?

I want to set all my files and folders to be sorted by Type by default. How and where can I set this? I’m at a loss.

Also depending on how I get to My Documents (though My Computer or off the XP Start Menu) it displays different. I guess the only way to have the same display is to set both how I want it?

open my Documents set the view how you want it to look then, select TOOLS, then FOLDER OPTIONS, then the VIEW tab, at the top of that screen, select APPLY TO ALL FOLDERS this should do the trick for you.
