Most of us have amused ourselves at the expense of the Prince of Wales and his new wife. Public figures deserve it when they are involved in the wrong sort of news.

However, everybody deserves a fair chance to make a fresh start with honour. Everyone whose marriage (or whose parter’s marriage) is not the first will understand this. Anyone else can say “there but for the grace of God go I.”

So, I ask you to wait until the Duchess of Cornwall proves half as stupid or indiscrete as some other members of the royal family before being nasty to her. I suspect you will have a long wait.
