Einstein@Home has discovered a fifth new radio pulsar J1644-4409 in data from the Parkes Multi Beam Pulsar Survey (PMPS)! Congratulations to Jesse Charles Wagner II (USA) and Ras (USA). And to think some people say distributed computing is a waste of time and energy…

No effort = no results. That’s not how we advance science and knowledge in general. Distributed computing has to be one of the best concepts for advancing science while on a limited budget. The big plus is for all the people who would not be able to contribute to science at all, this is a way to do something to help while expending almost no effort at all.
