exchange 5.5/2k3 x500 email address oddness

hi folks,

here at work we are most of the way through a migration from nt4 and exchange 5.5 to 2k3 server/exchange…

all of the users who have been migrated from the old domain work perfectly and were very happy…

the problem comes when we create new users directly under the 2k3 AD domain. the user is created correctly but there email address is borked

looking at the exchange settings in AD users and computers i noticed that the new users were getting an x500 address, along with the usual smtp.

the net result seems to be that there email address is now

IMCEAEX-_O=***_OU=*****CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=username@.com

i got no idea what exactly the problem is and therefor cant fix it…

any suggestions ???

we use x400 addresses here, internaly, but as far as I remember your username shouldn’t contain the @ bit, as the exchange will then think it’s an SMTP address. the @blah.com usualy refers to the domain your loging on to anyways and thas containd in the first parts of the x400 / 500 address.

If I’m wrong I’m sorry, we are still on NT4 and haven’t even planned to go to AD yet!
