Firefox, dns issues

Got an interesting one for you, been happening a while now.

Every now and then - few times per evening I’d say - my firefox will sit there “looking up www.blahblah.com” and time out. I’ll try again a few times and eventually it’ll work, then it’ll be fine again for a while.

Odd things I’ve noticed while this is going on…

  1. It happens with forums navigating to different threads/sections - even though I’ve just been browsing the site, firefox seems to need to look up the ip again.
  2. While firefox is busy timing out, I am able to do an “nslookup www.blahblah.com” from a c:> prompt and that works just fine, refresh firefox, still times out.
  3. This happens with the latest versions of Firefox 2, and 3, and has been happening for a couple of months at least - I always keep FF updated.

I regularly have 6-12 ish tabs open, with a few addons running - noscript, adblock, downloadthemall, flashgot, mousegestures, reloadevery, stumble etc.
I’ve disabled the avg plugin thingy.

So, any suggestions?

I’ll try and do some netstat or arp type commands next time - not sure what they’ll show though

cheers

Tried clearing your cache and temporary Internet files and restarting Firefox? That cured a similar issue for me in the past.

There is certainly an issue with Firefox 3 and pre-fetching

An issue I notice when using ebay - it will literally lock every other session/tab while the ebay one is still seaching or what not.

not yet

will give it a try
