Must admit when I bought the stuff of mackeral for this media center, it took me by surprise with the cost of parts I needed and how barebones the system was…
I ended up spending another £150+ on it to equip it with bigger hard drive, case, case fan, graphics card (and I’m not sure if it works properly yet! ) oh and some CPU paste and cleaner…
Most of that was second hand parts or cheap though I did enjoy the experience of building it myself (and the bits that annoyed such as when it broke…) but it’s all part and parcel I think.
Anyhow whatever you do…hope it works out…
And we’ll want to see it at Mojo’s even if you do carry it on the train
I think its great you want to build your own pc well done i want to do the same as you know but it will take ma a while to do it and i think if you build it yourself you learn more about the workings of it than buy one all ready made for you thats the whole reason i want to build one myself so i understand the ins and out of a pc and you can get it looking the way you want and once you have finished its the satisfaction that you did it yourself.
I stopped building PC’s for people because there is no margin in it any more. Now i buy a Dell, remove the sub-spec parts and add the required ones, the items removed do for upgrades and repairs. We got a job-lot here at work from Dell - 2.3Ghz Intels, 256Meg ram, 17" CRT monitor, DVDr drive, adequate graphics and sound, 80Gig hdd for £199. its just unbeatable when you factor in £70??+ for win xp.
But does that not mean if you open they sort of computers thats the warrenty up on them so if anything goes wrong they will not replace it because my dad got a pc and if the seal is broken at all they say he cannot claim on it if anything goes wrong because my dad wanted to put more mem in his and he was told that he couldnt they would have to do it
That is false, your Dad needs to contact local trading standards. There was a ruling a while back that as a selling point of PC’s was upgradeability that this practise has no standing at all in the UK.
At least I think I read that somewhere
