Time for bed, in many ways.
Much fun has been had but I feel this is at an end here.
Good luck to those with more stamina than I.

Another missing person from the TPR forums Sign of the times I guess, but it has been getting a bit quiet around here. :sigh:
Cheers TFW (Ian). All the best in wherever you find yourself m8

Never really been on the same page as each other. But GL and maybe we will see you around some time
Why go?? When you can stay a while…
Butuz
it slowly just slips away …
I’m not here anywhere near as often, and I’ve generally not bothered updating what life is throwing at me etc for ages as I’m simply trying to keep head above water. Forums need a pull, ours - community spirit and crunching, and crunching doesn’t need the enthusiast anymore and community, well we all grew up and many at the first sign of a debate threw toys from prams and left.
The dedicated server will be going at the end of this renewal, time to move to cheaper “cloud” (omg I hate that term) computing. We’ll drop the front pages as well and just go back to forum only - Google doesn’t visit us anymore as we don’t have the once rapid content we used to.
DT.
Nothing to see, nothing to say :<
There are not many distributed computing team forums that have been going solidly since 2001.
It’s nice to keep in touch tho I agree that DT shouldnt be paying lots of money to host this forum. Maybe we can alll chip in £2 for some shared hgosting or something?

All things change, or else the world would be very boring. Such as it is with teams. I think DT is right about the lack of need of the enthusiasts, BOINC’s platform saw to that. Still, we are here. We still crunch. Fewer in number, but dedicated nonetheless.
Good luck to you Ian, and don’t be a stranger

don’t worry about that, it’s not an issue as the server is used for many things, including work It’s a few years old now so it’s more than just the cost, tech moves on yet server hosts seem to put in a box and leave it
The “new” server, could be quite interesting - found some innovative tech servers that look like a great fit.
DT.
Ooh! nice. Piccies/specs would be nice to see
going a bit green
Looking at some innovative apache webserver setups that use a silly low amount of power - can’t say too much, but when I can and I’ve done the testing it’ll get a full write up
Raspberry Pi?
Seen people use the Raspberry pie as home servers in my travels fixing dell lappys.
Another one bites the dust…
server move happening at some point over the next few days
Seatbelts fastened…
ssh access on new and old server, shouldn’t be any drama at all really once all done. I did a test move last night and all went well, runs fast enough, found a load of files not in use any more so all in all a nice tidy up isn’t a bad thing, and it’s £300 cheaper per year
Nice job DT!
it will be when I do it, all test are good and just a couple of the TPR email being used, those not being used have been deleted to make the transfer easier
