Help me solve a dilemma please

Spotlights on bessie, I have three ways to go.

Route 1 is to mount an “A” bar on the bumper and mount two spots on it, over the winch. Good for visibility, spots are very close to winch, spots are lower down.

Route 2 is to mount a GRP light pod on the front edge of the bonnet, with four spots in it. Lose some forward visibility, spots cannot have light guards on them, pod will be bounced about a lot, howeve winch area is kept clear and spots are a little higher.

Route 3 is to mount two spots directly to upper surface of bumper between headlights and winch. spots are low down and fairly far forward so vulnerable, but can have light guards. No effect on visibility, bumper mount is rigid. This option is free (route 1 & 2 cost about the same)

Have enclosed piccies of 1 & 2 to give you an idea, cannot find a piccie of Route 3 which leads me to think for some reason it is a bad idea.

Help!

Pod. The reduction in visibility is negligible and you keep the winch free. Also you don’t restrict the airflow to the radiator which the others may do, causing overheating.

Route 4. Mount them on the roof

voted for pod knowing you’ve already done the roof

Is there no way of changing the proper cluster to get them in there? Seems like those normal lights could be moved about to allow a second headlamp on that cluster, guards and stuff then not a problem

Nope, there’s a serious amount of folded metal behind the plastic fascia and no way of adding lights unless they are surface mount or replace the existing ones.

You see where that tubular A bar is fitted to the bumper in Pic 1 … mount a spot at those 2 locations, then fabricate a guard for each of them

Keeps em low and clear of the rad flow - and it’s “different”

Depends what your after…

  1. Lighting up the next village 4 miles away
  2. Lighting up the mud directly infront of you.

Low for close to (Fog style lighting)
High for distance (Spot beam style)

I have no prefence looking at both the PIAA style lamp pod or the bull bar lightling

Any option there for quick release and adjust on bull bar… aka release twist move lock
so you can dangle them low if wanted or have them up high ?

Or think of a quick release back wheel on a push bike… 2 hole on a bull bar and mount upper or down

Of all the folks on this forum you were the only one I thought I could anticipate - I thought you’d go for pod because of the similarity to the Mini pods  I wuz wrong

I’m a fussy awkward Taurus  more into uniqueness.

You see with your’s also being a white landy, I’d chrome the black area of the existing lights and front thats currently black…and go with a chrome bull bar and some nice chromed spots.

But that’s just me

Then again If I had the money i’d try for something like this…

I’m a fussy awkward Taurus (F.A.T) as well, stainless steel light surrounds, grilles and A bars are available off the shelf. Not quite chrome but close.

Another option is to swap the 7 inch sidelights for HID units.

You could also fit 4 standard foglights under top of the A-bar to give more clearance and a wider beam pattern.

Well I was always going to do the stainless steel surrounds and grille with the A-bar and spots, with NAS light set, along with another 4 spots on the front edge of the roof rack. I was going for the “Light up the next village” option.

Still, she’s looking good. You’ve done everything I would have done if I had the time and money.

Now, next on the shopping list, overdrive, galv. chassis, long range fuel tanks, and disc brakes all round. That was the touring option. ARB Diff lockers, thats the off-road option.

Pod ordered

Having seen one in the flesh visibility concerns were not really relevant, no conflict with winch, lights high up out of harm’s way and I don’t have to drill holes in £200 of winch bumper. It even comes supplied in white
