just bought a new pc with vista on it and nothing much works got a wireless router to go with it and pc won’t see it but my lappy finds the router msn and a few other progs just hangs java won’t even install . the pc is dual core I REALLY DON’T LIKE VISTA CAN I FORMAT AND GO BACK TO XP?
and if i can install xp will it affect the warranty ??
Try plugging it in wired instead of wireless so it can fetch a few software band-aids for its falling down injuries without going boom.
I had the opposite situation with a wireless router and a Vista laptop.
Every time I switched on the router the laptop would grab control of the web admin interface preventing me setting up my own flaming router.
Switching off the Vista laptop solved the issue but had the laptop been in the house across the road I would have been well and truly stuck.
Vista is ok, needs a whole lot of metal behind it to make it good but I really can’t put myself in the anti Vista side anymore.
Would agree with TFW, plug it into the router wired and let it update itself fully… then try it wireless again.
I think everyone has read so much anti vista stuff that as soon as it doesn’t work they think vista is carp, if it wasn’t working in xp you’d be looking for a new driver or fiddling with settings, not threatening to go back to windows 98.
its great, however, you need to know all the ins and outs of it before you use it seriously (i had it for 3 months at work, and in that time, I played with every aspect of it to disable all the crap that isnt needed etc)
now, it runs like a dream, but occasically it does bum itself into the ground for no apparentl reason - i.e. it just will not copy things for love nor money or it will randomly stop things from responding
i sat up a shop-bought computer for a relative 3 weeks ago. it had Vista pre-installed. 8 bloody hours!
2 hours installing software, 3 hours getting the broadband to work (talkTalk dont have very good instructions!) and the rest - trying to find my way round Vista
i was back there yestedray for another 2 hours cleaning up the virii - McAfee may have been installed, but it wasn’t bloody working!
Im enjoying my experience with Vista… bought a vista home premium OEM version and Ive yet to activeate it… Ive reinstalled it twice but that was because I was trying out Linux Distros…
think Ive got four days to register it otherwise it goes byebye…
Backup and reinstall is on the cards again tho… Ive meddled too much this time
Still slowly learning vista here… recently read about a memory leak issue which causes a crash once I think it was 18000 file copies (or was it operations?) are made since powerup. Wonder if that might explain a few cases of random crashing when my vista box is left on for a few weeks. Will have to try pre-emptively rebooting maybe once a week to see if that helps. Currently there is a fix “on request” patch from MS.
I feel sufficiently confident, that my next main PC build will be vista. Come on penryn…
hmmmm other half likes vista trouble i had was with the router it would only work with the dongle plugged into the usb port took it back spoke to the manager and the dick head said you need that plugged in to make it work .lol i said no i need that if i want to get another pc/lappy to get onto the net . He wouldn’t have none of it so i told him to poke the router and give me another how strange changed router no dongle works perfect…lol
Well day before yesterday I finally registerd my copy of vista…been using the 30day trial period thing… so as to get used to vista and be safe in the knowledge that I know how to use it…
also imaged off the install so just incase in future I do kill it…should be safe
