Ideas for a an old plastic bottle.

Tonight, for “fun” (god, don’t you hate school homework designed to get the family involved) my son and I have to construct something different from an old plastic coke bottle for the “green” show thing at the school on friday.

The have suggested a number of “fun” things we could make like a dvd holder or a rocket.

What does TPR suggest ?

stick a plant in it ? http://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/F0A/8QGS/FPW9KSPE/F0A8QGSFPW9KSPE.MEDIUM.jpg

personally I like chopping off the tops and using them as oil/petrol funnels

ant farm ?
fill it with half water / half oil and add some glitter… makes a pretty “ocean”.

Petrol bombs. Make sure to use biofuel though seeing as it’s for a ‘green’ project.

Air reservoir for a cheap airbrush, pump to about 180Psi apparently

Rocket launcher ?

Hanging basket watering system

Spud-Gun

 liking spud gun and petrol bomb so far :Plot:

Google for coke bottle dry ice

Perhaps not entirely suitable for school projects though.

How about a bird-feeder, 30 seconds drilling holes, attach a bit of string, fill with peanuts.
Not squirrel proof but there are plenty of squirrel deterrents on Youtube you could build, especially if you have four bungee cords and a colander.

I think they suggest the bird feeder one, seems a bit to “green” for me and something his mum would do… I want a boys thing…

Scientific or something, the ocean thing looks like a good one actually

nice vid here, if a little simple

same site also has the classic submarine in a bottle

diet coke and mento’s spring to mind

Now is that not the TPR we love!

I am assuming a 2 liter bottle.
If two could be used…
Glue two side by side laying flat.
Open the sides enough to work with.
Fill one with very dry cracked dirt, and some miniature building, and lots of trash. Seal side tightly (airtight) unscrew cap and fill with smoke and seal.
Next bottle fill with rich potting soil and soy beans that will sprout, and miniatures of people and animals. Could add some cotton to sides to represent clouds.
Caption: You choose where you would like to live.
Some text on biofuels would be helpful.

Not sure how this will really look or work, was just a thought.

Although the petrol bomb does sound more fun.

Petrol bomb in a PLASTIC bottle?!

I hate to point out that
A) Plastic melts
B) Doesn’t shatter when thrown

so fail on two counts :stuck_out_tongue:

How about propulsion? The age old bottle rocket!

Bump!

(replied to the bread thread)

Combine the Molotov with the Dry-Ice experiments and you have a mini Daisy-cutter MOAB,

( and probably 85% burns mentioned on the coroners report )

Well i’ve gone for Ocean thing for school tomorrow, we have a second bottle to do something more destructive with on saturday

The funny thing about the Ocean thing is its basically oil in a container waiting to split, proper natural disaster waiting to happen :chuckle:

Thanks for you help

Now why did that make me giggle?

Just make sure it doesn’t get dropped on any carpeting that’s been glued down. My mom dropped a bottle of cooking oil on the carpet in the kitchen many years ago, and the oil caused the glue to let go so the carpet came up where it had been dropped. We were lucky in that we still had some of the carpet left over from when it was put in and were able to cut out the bad section, get everything cleaned up then glue a new section back down.

A bong. Plastic coke bottle, some copper tube, sellotape, water and silver foil, add some of Amsterdams finest and you’re away with the fairies!!!

Copper tube? Pushing the boat out! Surely you could use a straw :stuck_out_tongue:

Far too late to be of use but while looking through some fantastic creations here I spotted this

Cut a 2 litre bottle in half and use both parts as mini plant cloches to protect new sprouting plants from slugs. Works wonders for my dahlias
