GPS with speed camera database + mobile gun (IR) detection. Bonus is that the GPS can be output to lappy serial port and linked with Autoroute but the lappy runs out of battery after a couple of hours just as you are arriving in unknown teritory :(.
Now the dilema :-
The speed display on the Road Angel is supposed to be accurate but is 3-5 MPH slower than the speedo (as expected).
SO. When I’m doing my 80 down the motorway which 80 should it be?
The Road Angel is most likely more accurate as it probably works off the GPS sattellites to determine distance. Speedo’s are innaccurate by design and usually read slow. Yours only being 3-4mph out means you’ve got a good one
BTW, the latest AutoExpress has a snippet about some poor guy with a Snooper dashmounted detactor that didnt work through his heated front windscreen - he got nicked doing 37 mph in a 30 zone.

Soz m8. Missed your post.
Yeah, seems to work well for fixed cameras. Haven’t found any it doesn’t know about yet (hopes). Haven’t detected any IR yet but its value is questionable anyway as they recon it takes about 1 sec for a handheld laser to measure your speed. I can’t stop that quick.
Updating is simple using their download software. After the first time (when it does a full db download) it takes about a minute for an incremental. I do it once a week. Note that there is an annual subscription after the first year (or £99 for life ??).
I noticed your post saying that you were thinking about getting a road angel? I have the new model for sale at the moment if you would be interested? It is brand new and boxed selling for £350 although at least £400 in the shops.
Speedos are mostly accurate to 10%. However by law they are only allowed to over read and not underead your speed.
As long as you have got a good satellite lock on the Road ANgel those types of device are usually very accurate. There main flaw is that they take a while to catch up because they only change every couple of seconds. On a long straight road stay at 60 for a while and then see what the road angel says, it sould tell you how far wrong your speedo is.
Still happy with mine but still don’t know about the IR detection. Never gone off yet. Picked up my lathe 2 weeks ago from North London and it found all the temporary cameras round the M25 Heathrow roadworks.
Still think the lappy/Autoroute link thing is the best since sliced bread, led me straight to the guys front doorstep.
I picked up a New Road Angel a couple of weeks ago for my Civic Type-R - I’m very pleased with it - saved my bacon twice on a trip to Scotland!
However I did get a bit annoyed as it kept giving false alarms on the M6 - presumably places where there had been temporary revenue cameras which had then moved. Gets a bit distracting when you’re looking round for something which isn’t there!
Thanks mate - I do pop by from time to tome just to see how the team’s getting on.
Unfortunately, the car takes up most of my free cash (mainly on petrol! ) so I’ve stopped doing SETI for the time being cos I can’t afford the electric bill as well…
