Learning Tools PHP and SQL

As I’m taking on this new project at work, I’m beginning to get more involved with PHP and SQL for the new webserver we’ll be setting up. I’m definitely in over my head on these two, so could anyone provide a recommendation for a good book or program to learn PHP and SQL?

TA, Ben

The PHP in a Nutshell book looks pretty good - I bought it some time ago and skimmed through it but still have not needed to use PHP myself.
I nearly always look first for a Nutshell guide to a computing topic.
If you look for the SQL in a Nutshell book in Amazon (through our affiliate link…) you can also see their recommendations for “people who bought this also bought …” which show some other introductions to SQL.

When I started learning, i found Sams ‘teachy your self php, mysql and apache’ a good starter.
A good place on the web to look is devshed http://www.devshed.com/ and their forums http://forums.devshed.com/

PHP Essentials, published by Prima Tech (reads of back of book)

isbn 0-7615-2729-x
website www.thickbook.com

according to the site, it’s now outdated, but under the same publishing banner as SAMS I believe, so if you’re lucky a nice cheap copy around somewhere

If you’re learning MySQL, http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0672326736/qid=1145353159/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/026-0367226-8391639 highly recommended!

I used Sams for a few other books, looks like that’ll be my choice. Hopefully it’ll pay by going through the affiliate link and then switching to the US side. Thanks all!
