Hit a snag, on my XP machine it says a network cable is unlugged and it’s not.
Im tryin to connect the machines via a crosover cable and since im new to linspire and help is much appreciated.
ok you are just conecting the cable from one computer to the othere with no hub or switch ? if so make sure the cable is a crossover cable and not a normal eatherrnet cable as they are wired diferntly . 2 make sure it is a good crossover cable as one blorken wire or a bad conector crimp can make cable unusable.
try looking at the cable ends if you can see the coloered wires in side, if its a crossover the ends shouldnt be the same as the other end as the data in and data out lines should be switched . if both ends look same then its a noraml eather net cable that would requier a hub or switch between the 2 systems.
it’s ok…i think invest in a wireless network and hopefully linspire can reconise the wirelaess adapter

I have used them a bit havent tryed the new 5.0 but have used 4.5 witch was pretty nice its more a linux for people that are used to how windows works . used to be marketed under name lindows till microsoft blew a gasket tring to say the term windows was copyrighted .

There are many commercial versions of linux, ones that have been specifically tweaked to do a specific job by comercial people in repsonse to commercial requests. Pay people where they earn it :nod:

got my router and set it up on this machine…found my old network card and installed it but guess what…
it cant get an IP address and Linspire aint doing anything atm…
under windows when I click repair (cause it has no IP address) it says it cant renew IP address and contach the network operator (which is me 
) even though on the linspire machine it is sending and recieving packets…im stumped
UPDATE
well it’s connected (on teh XP machine) but cant ping the linspire machine and it dont seem to do anything… any linux pro’s help is needed
get a terminal up and do a ifconfig -a
also set up both units to use dhcp the gateway router u have more than likly has a dhcp server biult in . but u will have to configure it .
