Me new (er) motor :)

Suits me down to the ground after losing my old Volvo S40 2.0 to the scrap yard. A lovely Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 56 plate. Mostly OK. Has a couple of niggles. Replaced a fuse for the cigar lighter so I can use my TomTom Refitted a loose B pillar trim that was causing wind noise and refitted some other internal trims.

It was a cheap car (£3990), only has 55K genuine mileage. full service history, new MOT and drives great on the motorway. Has a bit of a diesel smell about it, which I can’t track down at the mo, but might have been caused if someone left the doors and tailgate open with the engine running whilst on the lot. Missing a parcel shelf, but I’ve bought one on Ebay and should have it next Tuesday.

All in all a distress purchase, but it was well overdue as I had the Volvo for 8 years and it was getting a bit long in the tooth, with things starting to fail on it, so the accident was nature’s way of nudging me into buying

sounds like you’re enjoying the new toy - 8 years is now getting to be a darn good innings for a car, don’t seem to last as long now before getting ruddy expensive to maintain.

You can also console yourself in the fact that it is built on the same platform as the Volvo C30, S40 and V50… My C30 has the Mazda/Ford 1.8 petrol engine and Ford MTX75 gearbox.

That’s true. All in all, so far not too bad. Parcel shelf arrived and fitted. Still getting a diesel fume smell, but scanning the Ford forums, poss an EGR valve leak or bad blanking plate install. Will check when I have time.

Already clocked over 270 miles and fuel consumption averaging roughly 40+ /gallon at a rough calculation, so 30% better than the Volvo. Tax is £50 better/year as well. Looking good so far

Is your driving mainly urban? My 1.8 petrol averages 39MPG on my daily commute which is a 50/50 mixture of urban and rural roads.

last time I was in Bristol on the ring road, once, just once I got above 10mph …

That mileage was a mixture. As a Dell engineer, I’m up and down the M4 and M5 corridors, but also in town as well, so it’s an overall average. It’s only a rough rule of thumb gauge at the mo. I’ll do proper consumption figures as time goes on.

@DT. It can be like that

Errrrm, Ye olde Galaxy bangbus is still shuddering along at 11 years and 143,000 miles, many bits are at deaths door after no careful owners and minimal servicing but it still works and sails through the MOT each year.
I havent washed it since my youngest son was born though, and he has two younger sisters, bits of it are turning green now.
