Microsoft pulls Windows XP & VISTA updates

Full story Here

Oops!!

Heard this elsewhere, but it was said only XP SP3 was pulled, but Vista SP1 was left alone. Indeed, Vista SP1 is still downloadable here.

I did get XP SP3 while it was out. Only put it on one unimportant system so far, can’t say I noticed any difference over SP2.

Just had to fix this for a fast on draw client…hosed the SQL side. Had to reinstall and rebuild database to get it working again…

Oh well…they pay the bills is all I care! I always say wait 30 days after a release before installing it…wow how true for sure this time…!!!

Several machines here downloading Vista SP1 as we speak, so looks like Mackerel is right

As said before I don’t really stress my vista box much, but it does feel a bit more responsive since SP1. In particular, much less disk thrashing with ordinary desktop tasks. So gets my vote.

Vista SP1 installed on 22 March; can’t say that I have noticed any difference good or bad.

Always good advice I feel Greg. I waited four years for my upgrade from Win98 to XP and there aint no way I’m getting VISTA yet, especially as I can pick up XPPro with MCE for £68 as an OEM licence.

Subjective I know but my laptop has just rebooted after the upgrade and seems quite a bit snappier…

One other thing about SP1 for Vista is that it supports up to 4GB ram in the 32bhit versions. I can confirm this as I’m running 32Bit business with 4GB and all is available.

I think that’s cosmetic only… ah, here it is: link

With SP1, Windows Vista will report the amount of system memory installed rather than report the amount of system memory available to the OS. Therefore 32-bit systems equipped with 4GB of RAM will report all 4GB in many places throughout the OS, such as the System Control Panel. However, this behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may notice this change.

Typical:rolleyes:
