Mobo with plenty of SATA ports?

Got an urge to build a PC as it’s been so long since I last did one. Been thinking about a file server again, as I have a fair few HDs lying around. None of my existing systems at home are really suited.

The challenge is finding the cheapest board with at least 6 SATA ports supporting raid 1. I’d prefer an Intel chipset DDR2 mobo as I already have an E2160 and ram I can use for it. Might consider nvidia chipset - but I vaguely remember reports of data corruption with them. I wont rule out AMD but in that case I’d need to get a CPU too which wont help cost.

Integrated everything would be a plus. No Asrock!

I suppose at a push I could get any random mobo and add in SATA controller card, but I’d really prefer not to.

Any ideas?

This has 6

6 SATAs on ICH9R? Perfect!

In looking myself I could only find two possibilities, neither of which were as good. One is an old '965 chipset Foxconn but it was ambiguous if they fitted 4 or 6 SATA connectors on it, and no built in gfx either. The other option is a high end motherboard, with a high end price to match… again without gfx.

Gonna have a quick shop around now and see if I can get it in time for the weekend for a play

I have 3 foxcon mobo’s with that chipset I think, I’ll check when I get home how many SATA’s are fitted, I think it’s quite a few.

Thanks for offer Damski but I’ve ordered the Gigabyte now.

Also got an urge to try overclocking the E2160 in it… the Asrock it currently lives in only goes up to 300fsb which it’ll do without breaking a sweat, I wonder how much further I can get it…

As far as I’ve heard they’re pretty good boards those GB ones.
