Multi monitors and software apps ....

…this was going to go into the what annoyed me today, but then I wondered if anyone had any magic apps or ideas on this one :frowning:

So, in office1, I have a 24" Dell monitor on my docking station, so yesterday when using my 3g dongle to test remote access into the newly installed adsl, I made a fatal error. I dragged the window for the mobile connection app to bottom right of my high res monitor …

At MS this morning, meetings galare  and a wish to use the 3G dongle as I don’t trust MS with the snooping :Plot: App window nowhere to be seen, handily it remember where it was last open and put’s iteself nicely back in the same position. Handy that, I’m just using the single laptop screen. :censored:

Complete uninstall and reinstall of the app was required to get the window back - how rubbish is that :sigh: The MS guys couldn’t stop laughing at the poor coding of the app in question, until I showed them how many other do it, Spotify does it TASKMANAGER does it, they stopped laughing then :spit:

Depends what OS it is - you can Windows + left or right to get it back on screen in Windows 7.

I use Displayfusion for my multimonitor setup but I use the free version (the pro lets you set extra buttons for the screen but not sure how well it works. I did try another that let you choose what screen to open on (AFAIK) but i cant remember what it was called! Search lifehacker for multi monitor as I recall it showing up on there a few times.

windows7, and that’s a shortcut I’ll try tomorrow

Sat in a room full of MS security professionals and not one knew that shortcut

sometimes have this problem when I bring my work laptop home and the 2nd monitor it’s usually attached to in the office is no longer there - but windows default to open on the now phantom screen…

I’ve found right click on the app in the taskbar and “Move” moves the mousepointer to the title bar of the app window - so even though you can’t see the mousepointer having clicked “Move”, just left click and drag the window back on to the lappy screen.

it’s a pain, but it works

that’s what I normally do, or alt+space to bring up the menu, but for this particular app those options don’t exist on the taskbar :frowning:

Well we both know the reason in coding the app they used MAIN screen (Windows Default) select which I know longer do. I use Manual select and dual screen issue works better. I know that startup in last known position is great but maybe someone at MS could write a handy reg clear for programs when this happens, or better yet a wonderful setting in ADMIN to ignore position settings…that would be nice!
DT I see your farm is rolling again on F@H maybe I’ll need to go get a few newer FERMI cards soon…or just let you bulldoze by in a few months…(Now if Wife will let me buy a few more toys) LOL!

:chuckle: there is more to come on the Folding farm :chuckle:

Current output is without the 460 on

If you have this issue in XP and you find that RMCing and choose move does not work using the mouse, use the cursor keys instead

the list of built in apps that does it goes on Notepad does it !!
