Nice little app for IE8

Thought I’d install IE 8 on one machine to see what it’s like, no problems at all. Seems a touch faster, but not spectacular.

The good thing in this version are things called accelerators. There is one called Trafficify which is quite good. Type in a postcode you’re going to in a search engine search box and when the lists of found things comes up, highlight the postcode text in the list and you get a little blue gadget which when clicked on, shows you the up to date traffic report for that postcode area, including safety cameras, road works as well as traffic jams.

Quite cool I thought. There are a load more accelerators HERE

I have IE8 installed on both comps, along with every other major Windows browser just to check how my pages respond / look. So for fun I tried it, yeah kind of cool have to admit. Never could leave FF now though, just too many EXT’s I rely on.

Droid,

Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help provide assistance to folks about their Internet Explorer.

Glad to hear that you enjoy the IE8 accelerators feature, Trafficify is definitely a good one!

Thanks!

Yeah I know that was just plain mean.
Heidi

the power of :google: again, or was that a msn/live search

I’m becoming a large fan of turning as much crap that gets in the way OFF, but then I seem to be moving to just developing web apps now and not desktop apps. Simple is best in my world - fancy gets in the way

DT.

I installed IE 8 on all my Windows boxes. I became very good at turning off all accelerators, all suggested sites, all updates, the favorites bar, the “popup an accelerator when text is highlighted”, the “new tab screen”, deleting all of MS’s new spam web sites, etc., etc.

Almost as much fun as buying a new laptop.

Just tried IE8 on Win 7 and it’s the best IE yet (not that that’s hard!)

However it’s good enough to be my secondary browser now I think (so Opera and if something doesn’t work, IE it’ll be)
Not tried the accelerators though.

You know what confuses me… I have both IE8 and IE8 for 64bit… why a 64bit?
Which BTW does not respond as well as just plain old IE8…
What purpose am I missing here.:sigh:

Got to say i’m not impressed so far, loading times for IE8 are just so slow, takes a good few seconds for pages to display. It’s that bad that i’ve even installed Firefox (i hadn’t bothered after installing Vista on my main machine and was happy using IE7) which i’ve never been a massive fan of.
