outlook and the auto archive

hi guys,

i have a person here at work who has meny archives for her email. 1 per folder. i have been given the wonderful task of changing her email archive options so that everything gets archived to a single file.

that being said i dont really want to manualy inport all of the allready archived emails, just to change the auto archive settings and run again…

so what im looking for is a little program or script that will consolidate *.pst mail archives into 1 *.pst archive (if you get what i mean)

that way i will only have to change a few settings in outlook and i wont be at it all morning

thanks

I think there is a tool that might be able to do this in the migration modules for exchange2003, try looking for exMerge on MSDN. I’m not even close to 100% that it can do it though …

DT.

Exmerge cannot do that. It’s for importing/exporting mailboxes in batches.

k, I wasn’t 100% on whether you could trick it into thinking they were exports and then import into a new mailbox, then export to the single .pst

DT.

Unfortunately you can’t. It’s not a very featured tool.

I reckon the only way to do what you want is create a new personal folder and then map all the archives and move the messages across.

Not to tedious and shouldn’t take to long unless they’re all over a gig each.

any chance you can give me some more detailed instructions please? this really sounds like the right way to go but my knowlage of outlook/exchange is small to say the liest

What I have done in the past, is to just create a new archieve pst in the folder that you want it. Now just go to the old archieve, select all the messages and drop them in the new archieve. Now disconnect the old archieve folder and continue with the next one. Once all the messages have been moved over, close Outlook and then go into the Control Panel (Windows) and open the Mail icon. Select the Data Files and from there, remove all of the old .pst files you don’t want anymore. Now when they open Outlook, all those archieve folders will no longer be there for them to see and use, and you can then go in and remove them from the server or local pc’s hard drive.
