The “poes” word we have is used in many ways similar to the c word here in the UK and Aus. It can be used as an affectionate term of endearment as well as a severe insult or even an anatomical term. It is mainly used by the colored population in Cape Town, or at least that’s where it originally entered Afrikaans and subsequently the English language during Dutch colonisation. Due to its effectiveness and multi-use capabilities pretty much everyone has it in their vocabulary!
A similarly used word is “doos” which directly translates to box in English. I’m sure you can see how they could be interchangeable.
