In South-Africa it appears you can lose a Giraffe in one of these mega craters

No, its a stunt with a taxidermy Giraffe head and people got grumpy.
The Owl Rescue Centre was about to engage Blue Light mode all the way there and save the not very alive creature.

South Africa has dedicated teams to locate and map pot-holes for potential repair.
