PSU Question/advice

Will be getting a 7800gt gfx card soon and as it is my 1st pci-e card was looking in to power/psu’s, I am currently running an Enermax EG465AX-VE(G) psu that outputs
35a @ +3.3v
35a @ +5
33a @ +12

Now my question is will my psu be ok if I run the card using the molex to pci-e power adaptor or will I need a new psu with dual +12v rails and dedicated pci-e connector?

I would imagine that you should be fine with that, but it depends on how many other 12v parts you have, like case fans, HDDS, etc…but I would imagine you should be OK with a single 7800GT. Ive run PCI-E cards with teh pci-e adaptor and have had no problems, I only upgraded because I didnt like the looks of it…but it had no problems supplying the juice the card needed.

Thanks again for the info/advice colossusx  card came this morning installed and running ok, ran 3d mark and Aqua mark a few times and all seem ok, Im happy

The TFW-Labs rule of thumb regarding PSU’s is buy one from a PSU manufacturer.

If you bought one in the cheapest available EBuyer case expect to replace it as part of a quest for silence and sanity. Its been designed or sourced by somebody qualified in the art of sheel metal Origami not a PSU maker.

glad it worked out…i love my 7800GT…but now am eyeing up a 7900GT or GTX…but cant afford even the power splitter right now!

Got a nice 7900 gt on ebay for £150.
Overclocked to the max @ 580 mhz core and 1580 mhz RAM; as fast as a GTX for half the price

Power supplies eh?

/me stays well clear
