reboot cycle

hi folks,

had to rebuild my faithful shuttle this weekend. and after a day of trying to install windows i gave up and asked spaceboy to take a look. he managed to get windows onto the machine and all was well…

this morning i turned the machine on and it blue screened on boot.

so tryed in safemode and blue screen

tryed last known good config and bluescreen reboot…

this happens regardless of what “mode” i try…

no idea what the error on the blue screen is as it flashes up so fast before reboot that i cant see it…

any ideas?

Does it stay up long enough to do the following:

<start> Run
Type sysdm.cpl in the box & hit <enter>
Go to Advanced tab and click the Settings button in the Startup & Recovery section.
Take the tick out of the Automatically restart box and OK everything down.

That should stop the reboot and leave the BSOD on screen…

thanks for the thought mate, but doesnt boot up far enough to actualy log in:(

it gets as far as mup.sys then bsod then reboot

so not even a login screen

hmmm, mup.sys rings a bell

but anyway, I think when I had the problem it was associated with the ASPI file in system 32. Alcohol 120 had overwritten the origional and windows threw a hissy fit.
I can’t remember how I got into windows eventually (bloody hours of fun - not) but then I uninstalled Alcohol, deleted the ASPI file, and rebooted.
Windows wrote a new Aspi and everything worked. (apparently Daemon tools causes similar)

As I say, I think that was my mup.sys error, although I did have a few others around the same time period (full XP /format/re-instal )

edit: just remembered, one of my other problems centered around Asus gfx drivers

Kinda a hope and pray method, but stick memtest on the box. I had instances where a shuttle went wobbly as the ram sticks decided they wanted a reseat for no apparent reason.

If it gets as far as mup.sys, the next driver loaded is usually the AGP driver so Wolly may well be on to something with his suggestion of GFX…

last night i added a second disk to my shuttle, turned the 2 disks into a mirrored array and reinstalled windows… no problems since…

still not sure what the problem was tho
