Road tax exempt ?

I was under the impression that old vehicles were exempt from road tax.

Its a pleasant suprise to find I can drive a 6.5 tonne 6x6 truck for £124 fully comp but a bit of a P.I.T.A that I have to tax it as well.

The temptation to use it for the school run is HUGE!
So you put flower pots down to narrow the road and annoy people that do sometimes dare to drive to school . . . . . I think that is no longer an issue

Anyone found a concise guide to vehicles exempt from road tax ?
I’ve poked around the DVLA site and even tried to call them but “All 220 lines are currently busy”

This should do it

Old vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973 (historic vehicles)

All vehicles except buses and lorries used commercially, that were constructed before 1 January 1973 may tax in the ‘historic vehicle’ tax class.

Not for commercial use as its Military!
