Seti@home goes BOINC

so look here

http://www.boinc.de/

i will translate the most thinks

Setiathome with the Data from Arecibo will be the first Project for BOINC, and it will be run at Oktover 2003.

Seti@home BOINC will be the first analyse the 2 Bit Data and the new 8 Bit Data from Arecibo also from the Reobserve.

Seti@home BOINC and the Classic Version will be running paralel a time, and the Data will be stored in the same
Datenbank.

Astropule will start after Seti@home BOINC, because the Paul Demorest is working at an different Project.

Apologies if this is a n00b question, but to which set of stats will wu’s be credited if they crunch SETI under BOINC? I’m presuming they’d have to set up a BOINC account which would be different from their usual SETI account?

To BOINC you need a BOINC account. The sign up is currently closed as they can’t handle the bug reports from the accounts currently open even though fewer and fewer people are BOINCing now since the software doesn’t work.

The BOINC credits are totally different. They are based on the number of teraflops you perform and the bandwidth you use rather than numbers of work units. Each result you send back is somehow verified and you are assigned a fractional credit based on your computer’s effort. It does take several days to receive credit (if at all).

That’s cool - I already have a BOINC account but am just not crunching till it sorts itself out, I think they have enough beta testers to keep it going for now

i dont know, normally you need for every BOINC Project an extra Account.

Seti@home BOINC and Seti Classic will be run at the first time with the normal WUs paralel, and the Results are going in the same Database.

How they will handle the Stats, I dont know.

@dale

My thoughts exactly - I lost all interest in it a long time ago, came close to shutting it all down, but then with the newbies and the intro to Lifemapper (no1)™ its all going well again…

DT.

BOINC is a great challenge to every man at DC, and the people at the Forums are working very good with us Beta Testers

BOINC Feature request

is only one thing

so the people at Berkeley did a great job, that all will be good for the Future.

and with the new Credit System,

i can also repeat David Heien

we have learned a lot in the last years

just my thought

Sir Ulli

Sir Ulli - I wasn’t trying to put Boinc down in any way at all - I am sure the beta-tester/Berkeley relationships is going great guns, and I will be one of the first once it becomes final release.

Keep up the good work to all those who still run it !

DT.

yep, it is a fantasting feeling, to be one of the first, and to do a little for the future, and that the people at Berklely will work with us Crunchers, not against us

so that is fantastic

so if my Stats are zeroes ore not, but i am one of a great team, who are working for this, and for the future.

I hope BOINC@Seti@home will start in Oktober, so many Teams and many cruncher will have Big problems…

with very best regards
Sir Ulli

On the subject of stat credits, I’ve been BOINC/Astropulsing for 4 weeks now but still showing 0 credits.
Is this typical?
Although the messages show results being uploaded, I’m starting to get concerned that something is not set up correctly on my machine.

i dont know, what it is with your stats,

that are my stats

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/results_host.php?hostid=89411

and that are your stats

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/results_host.php?hostid=89067

but they show claimed credit

Thanks for that Uli, I’ve bookmarked the page now but how did you navigate to this page.

I’ve been looking here for my stats. I see you are top in TPR

to navigate on this side, is a little tricky

step by step

top Teams, Phoenix Rising

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/team_display.php?teamid=52

and then klicking at The Balrog

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/show_user.php?userid=495

and then Computers view

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/hosts_user.php?userid=495

and then the tricky, look at Results at the right corner

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/results_host.php?hostid=89067

and here we are.

Sir Ulli

Wow. Wouldn’t have got there unassisted.

something new, only for interests

SETI@home classic will continue to count WUs, and BOINC SETI@home will count cobblestones.

Sir Ulli: You always have your finger on the BOINC pulse mate, can always rely on you for the latest BOINC info! Thanx

:amstupid:

I’m sure it’s been mentioned in a thread or two, but I seem to have missed the answer to this: exactly when are we supposed to give up “classic” SETI and begin crunching for BOINC? When they need the new data crunched, I want to be on top of it, but I also don’t want to be spending time on BOINC while they putz around trying to get it all working. Just wondering when I can expect to switch.
