slow running

just looking at task manager and what processess are running what is explorer .exe and why is it running my cpu at 100%

Have you got a DC project running Brucie ? Your computer is busy doing something !

nope got nothing running
also when i reboot or shut down my lappy explorer .exe and ccapp.exe has trouble shutting down :frowning:

When looking at Task manager, if you click the cpu heading it arranges them by which task is using the most… . whats at the top ?

As a little side thought…

Description:
ccapp.exe is a process belonging to Norton AntiVirus. It is responsible for the auto-protect and email checking facilities, both of which will not function correctly if this service is stopped. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: ccapp.exe could also be a process belonging to an advertising program by Symantec Common Client CC App. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author’s servers for analysis. This also prompts advertising popups. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Determining whether ccapp.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from in WinTasks

I used to run Norton F.Wall & A. Virus, gave them both the chop in favour of Comodo & Avast

firefox is at top at mo because thats the only thing i got running
nortons came already installed when i got lappy seems it ok untill i open my movies folder just wondering if theres something in that as it was ok until today just going to scan it with AVG just in case theres something in there that shouldn’t be there

thinki’ll get rid of nortons anyway though

hmmmmm seems there was something nasty in my movies folder although a scan didn’t show anything up deleted the folder and contents and all semms to be well again now

nortons is still going though:D

Least you sorted the issue Brucie

and take care what you watch … it may also be watching you

think you hit the nail on the head there …lol but no it wasn’t pron…lol

Explorer.exe is a Windows process. It drives the graphical user shell, managing the start menus, desktop and other stuff.

Sometimes Explorer.exe can get a bit urmmm…confuddled, especially if you have asked the PC to do a lot of things in quick sucession and the pc was already heavily loaded.

When this happens, it can just go off into a sulk and sit a 100% CPU usage until it sorts itself out.

It usually does (sort itself out) after a while, but meantime, the user has often clicked many other buttons etc in the hope to triggering some action. The act of clicking like this can sometimes cause more trouble because one is doing it blind.

If it happens quite a lot, then look at the stability of your hardware and software installations. Generally, one-off explorer.exe hang-up is nothing to worry about and can be recovered by a simple reboot but repeated occurences are an indication of a deeper issue.

I’m kinda wondering if ‘Explorer .exe’ is a typo is some form of malware pretending to be ‘explorer.exe’, that would/could also account for the anti-vi using loads of cpu, trying to kill it/protect you from it.

Boot into safe mode, then run as many anti-virus and anti-malware apps as you can, although tbh, Avast and WindowsDefender normally have enough guts to clean a machine.

DT.

deleted movie folder now :(…lol thats where the trouble seemed to be as when everytime i opened that folder thats when i had problems .Since i got rid of the folder all seems to be ok

If you had a corrupt movie file (even one innocently corrupt) I think explorer would be sat in the background trying to catalog/thumbnail it. If for whatever reason it had problems with a video file this would produce the symptoms you are describing.

All I’m saying is it may be innocent and not virus related.

The Right Honourable Mr Boycott has it IMO. It might not even be a corrupt file, just one that is only partially understood how to decode by the codecs installed on the system.
