hi all
im getting a smoke machine in the next day or so…i was wondering about scenting the fluid…is it possible to use oil burner scents or do i have to get the special stuff that costs a bomb??

You can use oil burner stuff, but it won’t be as gentle as the scent would be if it was heated normally. Just buy the premixed smoke fluid, then if your heater coil gets bu99ered, you can fall back on your dealer, if you’ve been using non-standard oils, you can’t.

Yeah I’m doing some ameture film production. doing all my own effect scripting, one man army, well two really, but anyway, building my own smoke machine. possibly may buy one, so would be good to hear how yours goes. as for the fog juice, the most common is propylene glycol or ethylene glycol and water (typically 60% glycol for thick fog) tho etylene glycol (radiator coolant) is a tad more toxic that propylene glycol. as for the scents, instead of oil burner stuff you could try essential oils, as they will keeop forever (natural oils wont support bacterial growth - cheap stuf has a cutting agent that makes it spoil) a few drops to the litre should work well enough, as most essential oils are as potent as all hell. Some places sell it by the drop even, so you can test out what may work. most aromatherapy clinics should be able to sell you some essential extracts that would suit. I never noticed how much i can talk, no wonder people tell me to shut up all the time. anyway hope it all helps, drop me a line if you find anything interesting about the smoke machine.
