Speaking of HTTPS

Other then the obvious reasons to use the protocol, would there be any benefits or drawbacks to put an entire site on a SSL.
Reason I wonder is if there is no drawbacks and one already has the ability then why not?

SSL takes more server time to process, plus I think there are side effects with cacheing so everything would need to be sent more often, eating up more bandwidth.
