The mind was turning eariler...

Before you shoot me down this is a total off the top of the head ponderance.

You know we all have these really prowerfull computers munching SETI etc, right.

And most of them have quite expensive flashy graphics cards in them with GPUs on them, right.

What is to stop someone writing a DC client that makes use of these CPUs on a gfx card, because at the end of the day almost all of the GPUs have smiliar ALU/FPUs to real CPUs.

As I said this is just a hair brained scheme to crunch more w00ts for free, so feel free to prove/disprove it.

I guess only that most ‘normal’ people run Seti as a background task, and having your GPU crunching away is likely to affect your perception of PC Performance (say that after a few shandys) more than your CPU being busy.

just buy another cruncher, you tight git!

I mention this every 12 months or so, then some smart arse tells me that the coding for the DC clients is too complex to run on a gpu, i wondered if there could be a directx “wrapper” of some sort, to maybe work it through the various pipelines but the coding types said it wouldn’t work :frowning:

And I haven’t got the faintest idea what the hell you are all on about

*Hidden really thinks she needs to learn more on the inner workings of pc’s
