Came back off my hols in Thailand last Friday and the day after started suffering from itchy and sore eyes. By Wednesday when I started back at work my eyes were still itchy but also my body started aching. My boss sent me to our surgery at work at about 19:00 and the nurse checked pulse and temperarture… as soon as she read my temperature I was sent home with the advice to go and see my doctor in the morning.
Yesterday morning got in to see the doctor, who ordered a blood test and the results came through this morning… seems as though I have picked up a microscopic parasite infection. and and luckily not malaria. They have taken some more blood samples for further tests.
My temperature is all over the place, my body is aching and my eyes are still sore. But it looks like my body is putting up a fight. Medication - for the moment just paracetamol and plenty of water.
Where did the infection come from? At the moment I don’t know but it could have been through eating, drinking, contact or an insect bite… I did get bitten by some ants.
I’ve got some new symptoms - stabbing pains in my right ear and been getting numbness on the right-hand side of my face… also my eyelid and the “bag” under my right eye has started swelling up and going reddish…
Wish they would hurry up and come up with a course of treatment cos I think my immune system is fighting a losing battle.
Not feeling too bad today and the symptoms haven’t got any worse. With a bit of luck the more detailed blood test results will be back tomoroow and the Doctor will come up with a course of treatment. I think the infection has got into my sinuses and is playing havoc with it.
Last night had visions of an Alien coming bursting out of my right ear… I was suffering from the most painful earache I have ever had… :scared:
Got back to see the doctor today and the good news is my second blood tests were clear and there was no sign of a parasitic infection. And, finally, I have been prescribed some antibiotics to get rid of the eye and ear infections.
Especially after just watching an episode of “Monsters inside me” about parasitic worms…
Doc has signed me off work for another week, whilst I am on the antibiotocs.
Think I’ll start copying what some people do over in the Far East when it comes to flying… I’m going to start wearing one of those surgical face masks when I fly. Airlines put everybody’s health at risk now as they recycle the air inside rather than draw in fresh air.
Thats one of the health risks from banning smoking.
When the smokers sat at the back of the plane, about 100 years ago it seems now, the air could not be recycled as first class would get the hump at being fed a whiff of farts mixed with Benson&Hedges.
Now the smokers are unable to light up they can send the farts round as many times as they like.
A quick google suggests 50% of the air you are breathing is recycled to save fuel, feeding you fresh air costs fuel and therefore money
If Ryan air could charge for fresh air I’m sure they would.
As regards the ear ache, I hope its not labyrynthitis as it takes ages to clear up
It is a sad that airlines put fuel economy before passengers health. It was bad enough that both me and my daughter suffered from a cold after our outward journey to Thailand, and here I am nearly 2 weeks after getting home still suffering.
My eyes are starting to feel better, the fever seems to have disappeared, and the earache has stopped but I’m still suffering from partial deafness in my right ear.
Well, the course of antibiotics done the trick and my eye and ear infections have gone, but have been left with temporary deafness in my right ear. Hopefully it will return.
