Time to power up those crunchers for Folding

:cold_sweat:

Sorry :innocent:

And to add to that sorry, I am sorry I have left the team. I am looking for more activity and banter so I have joined the Linus TechTips team.

For Nvidia folders the new 456.55 driver package radically improves Folding performance.

£456.55

Well, and a core update

Not sure if CPU only folding is worth the trouble but the office could do with some heating at the very least.

24 cores on the case…

log.txt suggests it has done 39% of a thing since installation

glum face - but yes I think they are sending out work to machines that return the work really fast, basically CPU folding is no longer a thing :frowning:

Apparently CPU WU’s are in short supply at the moment. I am struggling to get for my 3950X although supply has been better since yesterday

Hello there Mark, long time no see!

I started looking at Etherium instead, happy to chuck spare CPU cycles at projects but if I need to buy dedicated hardware then I might as well get stuck into this crypto currency bollocks for a bit of cash return.

@MrTFWitt Hey mate, it has been a while. How is the Kreepy Krawly?

I tried my hand at crypto mining. Had 3 rigs of 6 RX580’s each for just under a year. They paid for themselves and then some and I made some money back when I sold the parts

A friend of mine built a trading platform that was getting us 10-15% extra every month back in 2017.

@DoubleTop I have added a few extra cards to my folding, 2x3070 and built a little test bench based on the Praxis WetbenchSX. Just waiting for an NVMe to PCIe adapter and my daily will be about 10 million.

Lock down has me bored out of my mind.

how on earth did you manage to get 2x3070!!

@DoubleTop Hmmm, a long story but I paid premium for them.

$820 for an EVGA XC3 Black off of eBay and pretty much the same price for an MSI Gaming X Trio I bought locally after having my feelers out with all the local stores.

I ordered the XC3 about 2 weeks ago but eBay’s shipping program is not very efficient. In the time it took to arrive a local supplier told me he had MSI stock so I bought one. The Trio is an awesome card. very good cooling. Runs 60 celcius under full load at 50% fan speed

The Kreepy Krawly is still fighting fit, runs at about 3 Celcius under full load at present.

I’ve been doing a bit of Ethereum Mining…

Sarge.

@Sgt_Bilko how is it working out? Is it still fairly profitable?

with the recent jump back up of crypto pricing, it probably is profitable given some tweaking to card settings. I’t shard to judge the leccy usage against the profit though.

however, if you don’t pay the leccy bills or are in a serviced office with solar panels …

Works ok for me.
Running about 500 MegaHash now with half a dozen Radeon 7’s.
So Far So Good.

Sarge.

I’ve sold a bit of Eth this past week, mainly in curiosity on how fast and quick it worked. Might use it to buy a 5600xt to make some more
