Going out for some tonight, how well does sushi rate on your turnip list?
Don’t forget to have a go with some Wasabi, a thin even spread should be about right for a gentleman of your constitituion.
No more than 1/2 a teaspoon ful at a time though
Wasabi is my friend. We get on quite well.
I do love the pickled ginger for inbetween bits though, very nice.
Love sushi well made, can’t get enough of it!
All that I can find here is the stuff at Sainsburys but it itsn’t anywhere near as good as the real thing.
I particularly like that one with salmon roe
Sushi
YUM YUM
I particularly like the mackerel nigiri from Marks & Sparks
I just went to the supermarket to buy hamburger rolls, I couldn’t resist when I passed the sushi counter. Yum
I’d love to try some but don’t want to be put off by dodgy supermarket attempts I presume the Sainsburys one is ok??
I just had beef fried rice…do I win a prize?
Can’t say I’ve ever had the urge to eat raw fish. Gotta be a factor 3 on the Turnip scale.
Just had Jack Daniels glaced baby back ribs YUMM YUMM!!!:rotate: :Pimp: :hehehmm:
Well just come back from http://www.budokan.co.uk
The One in the city centre. Very poor selection, but then I’ve only had it in the US before where it’s much more common.
Good quality though, especially the Tuna Sashimi.
First taste of wasabi for the missus, I was a bit cruel, and she almost blew her head off :chuckle:
She started taking it out of the sushi, but by then she had a load in her soy sauce too
Gotta say was my first taste of maki, but I’m not a big fan of the seaweed, stick to sushi and sashimi I think. Enjoyable evening out, and not too expensive. Gotta be an 11 on the turnip scale.

I find it ok, but it is quite expensive and not as nice as decent stuff from a restauraunt. Forgot M&S do it too, will have to give them a try next time I’m passing one.

There’s no raw fish in sushi - unless it’s smoked salmon
I have only had sushi a couple of times - but then, living in the sticks, there are not a great deal of sushi outlets round here
I liked whatever it was I had, though
Never had the urge to even try it. (yeah… small minded when it comes to sushi)

Sushi: The sweetened, pickled rice. The fish is sashimi. Wrap the two together in portions and sell it as sushi, and the name still refers to the rice, not the fish. Sushi is indeed the term for the special rice but it is modified, in Japanese, to sushi when coupled with modifiers that describe the different styles of this most popular dish.
Sashimi: Raw fish fillets without the vinegared sushi rice. Sashimi is fresh, raw, chilled, sliced, and elegantly arranged. Ideally, sashimi is best when fresh, but most fish freeze well and are served after thawing. Sashimi may be garnished with raw vegetables, leaves of knot grass, parsley, lettuce, shredded daikon radish, and sometimes seaweed or cucumber. Sashimi is odorless and very delicate. When sliced thick it is served with soy sauce, when sliced thin served with ponzu, a citrus flavored sauce. Wasabi, red pepper, and green onions may be served to mix with sauces as well. The beauty of the sashimi is that it lacks both the fishy smell and taste that you think would be its undoing.
Are you pulling my plonker?
What is sushi?
Sushi is a favourite Japanese food and means ‘with rice’ and not ‘raw fish’ contrary to common belief. Sushi rice is slightly sweet as it is gently mixed with rice wine vinegar to create the building block for the perfect sushi. Toppings and fillings can range from fish to vegetables, meat or even fruit. What are the different pieces?
Nigiri – a healthy portion of lightly vinegared rice with a dash of wasabi and topped with a slice of smoked salmon, king prawn, smoked mackerel or omelette.Maki– fillings of smoked salmon, sweet potato, cucumber and sweet red pepper, each wrapped in vinegared rice then lightly rolled in toasted seaweed (nori) and cut into slices.
Futo-maki (California rolls) – rolled layers of seaweed and vinegared rice carefully filled with tuna, prawn or smoked salmon, avocado and cucumber or prawn and cucumber, then lightly coated in sesame seeds.
Chu-Maki – a medium roll filled with green beans and sesame seeds wrapped in vinegared rice, then lightly rolled in toasted seaweed (nori) and cut into slices.
What is wasabi?
Wasabi is a hot green Japanese horseradish. A small amount of wasabi should be mixed with soy sauce to dip each piece of sushi in.
No plonkers pulled
Oh right…so you were just being a pedantic git, lol…
Futo-Maki for the Mothering WIN as a rather late midnight snack.
Sponsored by my recently acquired skill in getting the stone out of an Avo without incident.
