…ha ha ha - those who have met me will be quite amused at this one.
The wife is learning to drive and last week had a lesson in a mini and liked it - especially as the model she had a lesson in had a turbo
So today we went to the showroom just to have a look, well I was firstly amazed I could fit in one comfortably. Only one drawback, it kinda becomes a three seater when the seat is back for someone as tall as me (6’4").
At least it shuts her up about getting a mini though - so in my book mission accomplished

Not really “mini” though are they… My 90 is just a fraction narrower than the new mini, and it’s a 4-door saloon!
Cooper S for learner cars? Waaah i had to learn in a bloody 1.4 corsa
Theyre comfortable for people in the front, but there is bareley more room in the back than there was in the old mini - and considering how huge the new mini is compared to the old, thats just poor design, the old mini was a triumph of design, the new mini is the oppisite.
Butuz
I know what you mean about learning in a Mini Cooper S
I just had the 1.9(I think) turbo diesel Fiesta.
Figuring I may take a look round at the Clio 170, the wife likes the shape and design of the new Micra - not got time to look properly but is there a more powerfull than normal Micra ??
DT.
Not a fan of the old mini. Wasn’t of the new one, but it’s growing on me. After sitting in one with a cool sound system after Bibby took me to a thingy in Reading they are growing on me. Especially those with more funky paint schemes.,
I took my second test in a new mini (only had 3 lessons previous to the test in it :o). Nippy thing, especially loved the high end of 3rd gear, hit 55 and it’d shoot up to 70+. Holds the corners very well too (didn’t even make the tyres squeel doing DT style turns). Only thing, as DT has said, is space. Sit in the front of that and there’s no room in the back for anyone…
@DT when I had my Almera serviced, I got a new Micra as curtousey car. Can’t remember exact model but think it was a diesel. Anyway, given it’s handling, you don’t really need more power. The power steering is turned right up, you could steer on the spot with one finger, and it feels very light at lower speeds. It feels “nippy”, not all out “fast”, but fast enough and fun. Wireless entry and starting is a great toy. According to the onboard computer, I was doing about 50 mpg average around town, which dropped to ~40 when I took a quick run along the motorway (bit of traffic so I was changing speed a fair bit).
I considered buying one, but didn’t quite like it enough to buy one new. I’ll give it a year or so for any bugs to be ironed out, and 2nd prices to drop a bit before I look again.
