Trying to go diskless

where and how do i edit the files mentioned in the otherwise exellent manual by DT? :flip:

From the top…

Click the hat
There is a bit for filesystem browser or something like that, this will feel familiar, its basically explorer. Browse as you would on a win (phut pooey) box and get to the paths mentioned in the guide. Personally I right click and open with gedit.

The other way, open a system terminal, which in windows terms is the command prompt.

cd is still the same, rather that DIR, its LS. Browse as you would on a win box cd /opt/ltsp etc (I think Mojo did a guide on this). Once in the directory mentioned by the guide, do either
gedit filename
vi filename

I would suggest gedit as for windows users its a bit more familiar.

If you can get to the TPR irc, I’m just logging in now.

DT.

The file explorer thingy is the one for job, the i think its gedit that comes up after that.

I’ve set a link up on my desktop to each of the important files now so i don’t have to find them each time

Sorry i have’nt been able to do anything about this for a while as i’ve been down with a bad case of flu/bronchitis. I was just wondering if i had to download from etherboot if my mainboard( in the node) has onboard lan?

If your node board is an nForce 2 chipset , follow the instructions in DTs guide , download and extract the file as instructed , it worked for me  , I found that via and intel chipsets worked with the stuff already installed. if the board is fairly new it should have an inbuilt boot rom with the onboard ethernet port . If for any reason this is not posible you may have to download and create a bootable image on CD or diskette to kickstart the linux proper download via a NIC without a boot ROM.
HTH .

Hope youre feeling better now :agree:
