So 1999
but prob 20x better than those from way back then
Every time I see a valve product like this I can’t but help think they’re going too far. If you want a valve amp, fair enough, but I can’t see it helping a CD player that can’t already be done as well without valves, probably at much lower cost.
Product site seems to be at http://www.primaluna.nl/products_subpage1a8p.htm
State-of-the-art components include Burr-Brown upsampling circuitry and digital-to-analogue converters, ensuring the best quality signal is passed to the valves.
If you pass the signal from the D-A converters to the valves, you have already done the clock recovery so the valves have no consequence on the jitter.
The original quote implies a tube is used in the clocking. The pic on their web site, and I’m gonna have to get technical here, shows two big ones and 4 smaller ones. With 2 per channel, that leaves 2 for other purposes. TBH I don’t know enough about valves to know if they can be used by themselves for super accurate clocking, but I’ll be surprised if you can.
Maybe I’m getting old and grumpy, but stuff likes this makes me think they’re cashing in on a dream. Not saying it isn’t good, but value does have to be questioned.
They could be used yes as a clocking device you not talking frequencies beyond their intended purposes anyway in radio and other gizmo’s from days gone by.
Not convinced its that great a product i’d expect if it was so super it would be commanding a price tag somewhat higher
