got a virus and can’t find it to get rid avg pulled it out but can’t heal it or put it in the virus vault seems it’s to do with opera

brucie

hmmmm uninstalled opera threat still came up but when i did a scan with avg and nortons nothing was found so rebooted now it seems to have gone  thought i might have had to do a system restore already on lappy…lol seems not now

How do you know it’s to do with Opera if you cant find it?

I’ve not had any problems using Opera and it’s been my main browser of choice now for a long time. (run both linux and windows versions)

What’s the virus name? That way it can be googled and we can see what the web tells us about it

it just said it was a dowmloader exploit or somethinglike that and that it was in " c/docs and settings /opera/something/something "can’t remember it all
but even after scanning with avg and nortons which didn’t find anything with a scan yet still had some windows from both scanners showing up as soon as i uninstalled opera and rebooted the problem was solved
and i never had any probs with opera before been using it for ages myself ,i will get it back again as thats the only browser that i really can get on with

You say you couldn’t find it.
Did you look through the hidden files as well? I know recently you asked about hidden files.

IIRC the documents and setting application folder is hidden so turn off hidden files means you could have found it.

Might have been a false positive, just one of the scanners being a little over-enthusiastic. Run AVAST on it and see if that throws up anything.

@drezha how do i do that again please ?

Go into a folder up the top. Goto tools > folder properties > show hidden folders.

That should mean you can find the right folder.

brilliant thanks m8
