Just wondering, on systems bought with Vista pre-installed, which version are they putting on. Not the edition, but 32 or 64 bit? Or do they get both?
Been debating replacing my ancient win2k install and undecided if I should go 32 bit to be that bit more short term proof, or 64 bit for the longer term. Of course OEM is far cheaper than retail, but you only get either of the versions. Or would 32 bit last “long enough” that by my next major hardware upgrade I’ll get a new OS anyway…
just get something with xp… at liest you know it works
I’m mostly interested to hear how the 32 vs 64 bit balance is swinging.
There’s little reason to go to XP from 2k. The main reason I want to change from 2k is that some new programs are starting NOT to run on it. A recent example would be C&C3. XP doesn’t seem worth the jump to buy now. Kinda leaning towards Vista HP32 at moment as I already have that on my HTPC and it works fine as such. But I’ve not looked at old gaming compatibility yet.
Well my laptop arrived with the 32bit edition of home premium.
I’ve run games like Serius Sam II, Warhammer 40k series and Company of Heroes on 32 and 64 Vista. Had you asked me a couple of months ago I would have said 32 for driver availability, nowadays manufacturers are getting their act together and ther isn’t much difference. I believe “standard” preload will be 32-bit for similar reasons.
I wouldn’t worry about 32-bit disappearing, there will be so many bought by businesses that there will be two versions as long as there’s a Vista IMHO.
